Description
Buteo Photo Gear Grebe Floating Hide Tent
The Buteo Photo Gear Grebe is a floating hide tent meticulously designed and tested by expert nature and wildlife photographers before it was made accessible to the public. This addition broadens Buteo’s line of high-quality professional-grade wildlife and photography tents.
Setting up the tent is a breeze. Start by inflating both air chambers, then attach the mounting plate (or plates) for your tripod head followed by securing the two storage bags. Once done, set up the tent frame and fasten the tent cloth to the frame using the attached straps and Velcro. Presto! Your floating hideout tent is ready for action.
Wildlife, notably birds and mammals, tend to be quite skittish around humans. Camouflage yourself and your gear with this floating photography tent, providing you an advantage to get close to wildlife at the water’s edge or surface without causing disturbance. Since you blend well with your surroundings, the animals don’t see you as a threat, enabling you to capture stunning images from an intimate distance.
Benefits and Considerations
Having your own portable and floating hide allows you to capture precious moments anytime and anywhere. Compact and lightweight, you can transport this floating photo hideout to your local pond, lake, or even further from home, making it an excellent travel companion.
- Befor entering the water, be familiar with the depth of the area you operate in for safety reasons.
- Know your wildlife targets by determining which bird or mammal species you wish to photograph.
- Check if you’re permitted to enter the bodies of water you target.
- Understand the lighting conditions prevalent in the area.
- Pre-visit natural water bodies and thoroughly prepare to ensure a safe and well-targeted water wildlife photography session.
Getting in the Water
In order to not startle any wildlife or humans around, choose an area that’s hidden from view when first entering the water. Prepare the floating tent on dry land and attach your camera and lens to the tripod head from the bank to keep the process as secure as possible. Using vegetation or creeks as cover could prove beneficial when venturing into the water undetected.
The camouflage pattern of the tent replicates reeds, and it is possible to add further cover like branches or additional reeds. These additions can be attached with the provided ropes. If applied properly, your hide blends even more seamlessly into the natural surroundings.
Interacting with Wildlife
Imagine the satisfaction of waiting patiently in your floating tent, observing and listening to the nature around you, all prepared for action. Suddenly, your target wildlife appears just as you’d hoped – the beauty of capturing these moments makes all the waiting worthwhile.
Upon entering the hide, you’ll find the inside darkened by a black coating. The hide’s multiple viewing windows, equipped with an insect net, offer adequate visibility. An additional snoot/lens cover camouflages your lens and protects it from water droplets.
Utilizing a floating hide tent offers a wholly different experience from the usual stationary ones. However, it is advisable to minimize movement to avoid frightening the wildlife. Ideally, let them approach you. Patience and practice are key here.
